Chelsea have advanced contract talks with Thiago Silva, but N’golo Kante and Mason Mount’s futures are uncertain

Chelsea has advanced contract talks with top star Thiago Silva, who is celebrating his 39th birthday.
Thiago Silva: The extension until 2024 is a recognition of the Brazilian’s age-defying performances and leadership qualities, following a dramatic transfer window in which more than £300 million was spent on younger players.
N’Golo Kante’s contract is also up for renewal, but the midfielder is hesitant to accept a two-year deal with an option for a third year. The 31-year-old is hoping for a three-plus-one deal after an injury-plagued season.
Meanwhile, players whose contracts are set to expire this summer have left those with 18 months remaining on their contracts in the dark.
Mason Mount’s new proposed seven-year contract is being handled by co-owner Todd Boehly, but little progress has been made. The 24-year-old, the club’s player of the season for the last two seasons, is still among the lowest paid at Stamford Bridge and wants a salary comparable to his England teammates.
Chelsea has offered those terms, citing the security of longer-term contracts offered to eight January signings, who earn on average around £70,000 per week, well below the market rate for a top-level player.

However, despite speculation that they may be released in the summer, Mateo Kovacic and Conor Gallagher have not been in contact about new contracts.
Liverpool, one of the Premier League’s titans, is ready to put Chelsea’s resolve to the test this summer, and the new regime may be tempted to sell Mount.
