According to reports, Chelsea are aiming to hijack Arsenal’s pursuit of Mykhaylo Mudryk, a youngster for Shakhtar Donetsk.

Arsenal has been keeping an eye on the 22-year-old international from Ukraine for some time. Additionally, it has now come to light that the young player and the Gunners have reached an agreement on the parameters of a five-year contract, leaving the two teams to negotiate only the transfer money.

The Sun reports that Chelsea have started negotiations with Shakhtar Donetsk in an effort to beat Arsenal to the signing of Mykhaylo Mudryk. The player’s most recent bid from Arsenal is £62 million, which is significantly less than Shakhtar Donetsk’s asking price.

Chelsea might hijack the deal if they agree to pay Shakhtar’s asking price of roughly £60 million with an additional £20 million in add-ons and offer better terms than Arsenal, the report continues.

With his captivating performances for Shakhtar, Mudryk has established himself as one of Europe’s most highly sought-after young players. With 18 games across all competitions and 10 goals and 8 assists, the 21-year-old winger is clearly on Arsenal and Chelsea’s radar.

Todd Boehly, a co-owner of Chelsea, plans to make significant transfer-market purchases to aid Graham Potter in turning around the club’s woes.

David Datro Fofana has been signed by the Blues from Molde, and Andrey Santos, a young player from Vasco da Gama, is expected to do the same soon. Benoit Badiashile, a defender from AS Monaco, is about to move to Stamford Bridge, while the west Londoners are still highly interested in completing a club-record deal to acquire Enzo Fernandez from Benfica.

The lackluster performances of Raheem Sterling, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Christian Pulisic, and Hakim Ziyech, together with Armando Broja’s season-ending knee injury, should make the acquisition of a forward crucial going into the second half of the season.

The Blues must seek out another forward regardless of whether Fofana will join the first team right away or be loaned out for the remainder of the season. In that sense, Mykhaylo Mudryk might be ideal for Chelsea.

Mudryk, a left-winger by trade, is a straightforward, vivacious, and unpredictable player who enjoys going up against his man and defeating him with his lightning-quick pace and deft dribbling abilities. The Ukrainian can go in either direction, but he prefers to cut in on his powerful right foot and shoot. This season, he has dazzled in the Champions League, standing out for two magnificent goals he scored against Celtic in the group stages.

However, the 21-year-old has yet to establish himself on a domestic level in one of Europe’s elite leagues. If a deal to Chelsea materializes, Mudryk might also require some time to adjust to the demands of Premier League play due to his youth. Graham Potter could therefore be the ideal manager for developing his talent. In exchange, Mudryk would strengthen Chelsea’s attacking units and provide them the much-needed cutting edge that they have lacked all season.

All in all, Todd Boehly would be making a huge statement of intent if Chelsea used Arsenal’s contract to acquire Mudryk from Shakhtar as leverage.
