RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku, who is set to join Chelsea this summer, spoke with Football Manager about his favorite position on the field.
The France international, who is set to join the Blues after this season for a fee of just over £50 million agreed upon in the latter half of 2022, has been outstanding for Leipzig in recent years.
Nkunku is a versatile forward who can play in a variety of positions, including number 10 and left winger. However, when asked about his best position, the 25-year-old stated the following.
“I believe that is a position that would suit me well. Near the goal, behind a striker. That nicely describes me as a player, so I enjoy playing in this role.”
Nkunku has 32 goals and 17 assists in 49 Bundesliga appearances since the start of last season. Last season, he was named the best player in the German league.
In the last 18 months, he has mostly played as a second striker or a number ten. When you combine that with his incredible numbers, it’s easy to see why he considers that position to be his best.
Chelsea signed Joao Felix on loan for the remainder of the season, a player who prefers to operate in similar areas.
