Following his impressive tenure at RB Leipzig, Chelsea has finally announced the appointment of Christopher Vivell as their new technical director. The 36-year-old thrived in the Bundesliga and will be hoping to repeat his success in England.

Leipzig have made significant progress in recent years, earning a reputation for bringing in exciting young players and developing them into first-team stars. Thus, Vivell’s qualities are unquestionably compatible with Todd Boehly’s strategy at Chelsea.

As part of his Vision 2030 concept, the new Blues owner wants to broaden his recruitment strategy so that some of the best young players in the world are identified early. This extends to his first-team strategy, in which players will be acquired earlier in their careers.

BREAKING: Chelsea Make Major Announcement Ahead Of Premier League Return

So, what kind of signings can Chelsea fans anticipate from their new technical director?

Szoboszlai, Dominik Szoboszlai

Vivell signed Hungary international Dominik Szoboszlai twice, first from Liefering in Austria and then again when he moved to Leipzig. Since then, the 22-year-old has thrived in the Bundesliga, scoring once and assisting seven times in 13 league appearances this season, and he could be the next talent to leave Leipzig for a large fee.

Benjamin Sesko

Chelsea have been linked with signing Benjamin Sesko since the summer, and it’s possible that the club is hoping that his relationship with Vivell will help them land the forward. The Slovenia international signed his first professional contract with Salzburg in 2019.

The striker then went on loan for two seasons before returning to the Austrian club and showcasing his talent. The 19-year-old has a growing list of suitors, including Manchester United, and could be the subject of a bidding war in the future, especially if he maintains his current form.

Andre Silva

Andre Silva, a Portugal international, joined Leipzig from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2023 after a stellar season in which he scored 28 goals in 33 league appearances. After that season, there was a lot of interest in the 27-year-old, but Leipzig managed to convince him that a move to the Red Bull Arena was the best step in his career at that point, demonstrating how effective Vivell can be in negotiations.

Josko Gvardiol

Chelsea, like Sesko, may believe that signing Vivell will give them an advantage in the race to sign defender Josko Gvardiol. The Croatian was one of the standout performers at the Qatar World Cup, which will come as no surprise to the Blues’ new technical director.

During his time at Dinamo Zagreb, the centre-back was identified as a rising talent and signed for the club for around £14 million. Chelsea, Manchester City, and Real Madrid are all interested in the defender, who is expected to fetch at least £80 million in the summer – though they will have a difficult time convincing Leipzig to part ways with their star, given that he signed a new contract ahead of the season.

Erling Haaland

Erling Haaland, a striker who needs no introduction. He was acquired while Vivell was at Leipzig’s Red Bull sister club RB Salzburg, having joined the club from Norwegian outfit Molde. Numerous clubs were made aware of the teenage sensation, but few were willing to take a close look at the striker and recognize his potential.

Haaland spent only one and a half seasons with Salzburg before joining Borussia Dortmund, where he established himself as one of the best young players in the world. Today, the 22-year-old is regarded as a future Ballon d’Or winner at Manchester City.
