‘Crazy, crazy bid’: Chelsea will have to pay a lot of money to sign the 23-year-old in January, according to Romano.
Fabrizio Romano believes Chelsea will need to spend a lot of money in order to sign Rafael Leao in January.
Romano warned Todd Boehly on the House of Champions channel that the bank might have to be broken in order to acquire the AC Milan attacker.
Boehly appears to be planning a raid on the San Siro for their hot 23-year-old forward, either next month or in the summer.
Graham Potter would benefit from acquiring Leao as soon as possible.
According to Romano, His current front line has struggled in recent games and is now one man down due to Armando Broja’s injury.
However, the Chelsea manager may have to accept that Leao will not be joining the club after the New Year unless Boehly makes a big offer.
“No, it is not a done deal because Milan will try to keep the player. They intend to try to extend his contract. I believe it will be extremely difficult to sign Leao in January. “It might be different in the summer,” Romano explained.
They’ll need a crazy, crazy bid to sign the player in January.”
Chelsea will need a large sum of money to pay for Leao. Boehly is the only person who can afford to make such a ridiculous offer.
He signed off on £278.4 million in new signings ahead of the current season, the most of any Premier League club.
Several names, including Leao, have been linked with Chelsea ahead of the winter transfer window.
Milan are determined not to lose their Portugal international, and have reportedly placed a £128 million price tag on his head to deter suitors.
This sum, combined with the fact that Christopher Nkunku is on his way to South West London, may cause Boehly to reconsider moving to Leao.
