Reasons why former Chelsea midfielder, Ross Barkley contract was terminated by Todd Boehly at Stamford Bridge revealed. The 28-year-old left the Blues to join Ligue 1 side, OGC Nice in the summer after agreeing to terminate his contract at Stamford Bridge.

Barkley, who has taken the French side’s No.11 shirt, joined the likes of former Leicester City goalkeeper, Kasper Schmeichel and former Juventus midfielder, Aaron Ramsey and Arsenal’s Nicolas Pepe at the club. Former Everton star Barkley has now revealed just why he decided to join Nice.

The England international said he made the decision after conversations with former Team GB cycling supremo Sir Dave Brailsford and British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe.

Nice is an ambitious club,” Barkley said, according to talkSPORT.

“They presented me with a project over multiple years. It is a club that wants to go far, that wants to be a big club at a European level.

“I managed to speak with Dave Brailsford, who showed me the growth project at the club. Jim Ratcliffe also convinced me to come here to help the team progress.”

The England player began his football career at Everton in 2010 after spending time on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United. He became a first-team player, making 179 total appearances and scoring 27 goals for Everton.

Ross Barkley joined Chelsea in 2018 at the age of 28, were he won the FA Cup in 2018, the UEFA Europa League in 2019 and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2021.
