Manchester City striker, Erling Haaland has cited Real Madrid hitman Karim Benzema while mentioning one of his main motivation for swapping Burrusia Dortmund for Manchester City this summer.
The Citizens triggered what is revealed to be around £51 million this summer to help them capture their long term target in Earling Braunt Haaland from Burrusia Dortmund.
The Norwegian, 22, has had a flying start at the Manchester based club, scoring three goals in his first three official appearances in the Sky Blue kit this season. This includes a brace that he scored against West Ham United in his Premier League curtain raiser.
Haaland was very close to joining Real Madrid as the Spanish giants were seen as the front runners in the race sign him, but the Norwegian was destinated to working with Pep Guardiola and particularly playing for Manchester City which he mentioned as dream club.
And Haaland who found the opportunity to open up on his career at City while speaking to FourFourTwo has name-dropped Karim Benzema as one rival striker he is looking forward to being like.
“I don’t know what will happen, but it must always be about learning, about developing,” Haaland said. “You can never stop looking for new ways to become better. ”
“Look at Karim Benzema at Real Madrid. He’s 34 now, and suddenly he’s developed into an even better player over the last couple of years – that’s insanely good. I want to always do that.” He added.
Manchester City fans are now hopeful that the Norwegian will continue with his brilliance in the Premier League and European top tier competition that is seen as their main target this term.
