According to The Athletic, Chelsea has accepted an offer from super-agent Jorge Mendes for Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix.
Due to a rift with Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone, Atletico Madrid president Miguel Angel Gil Martin stated last month that the Spanish club was open to Felix leaving in January.
Mendes is also said to have approached Manchester United and Arsenal about Felix.
According to The Athletic, Atletico are seeking a €21 million (£18.6 million; $22.5 million) package that includes a €15 million loan fee and a €6 million gross salary.
According to the report, Chelsea are interested in signing Felix on loan in January, but they are willing to pay less than half of Atletico Madrid’s €15 million loan fee.
Chelsea are willing to pay his €6 million salary until the end of the season in exchange for a loan fee of less than €7.5 million, rather than the €15 million demanded by Atletico Madrid.
Graham Potter is in hot water as Chelsea suffers the consequences of a summer of rash decisions
Liverpool have just signed PSV’s Cody Gakpo and have no plans to sign Felix. Manchester City is also unwilling to sign the Portugal international.
Felix joined Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2019 for €127 million from Benfica. Felix’s 34 goals and 18 assists in 130 games fall far short of expectations, given his talent and transfer fee.
