Guardiola compares Haaland to Chelsea’s star, explaining why the striker is “not like” other players.
Following his goal against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup on Thursday evening, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola praised Erling Haaland’s fitness levels.
The Norwegian international hasn’t played a competitive game since before the World Cup, but Guardiola claims that, unlike players like Rico Lewis and Raheem Sterling of Chelsea, he doesn’t need time to regain match sharpness:
Manchester City News: Robinson makes outlandish Erling Haaland claim in light of new developments
“Erling is not like Rico (Lewis) or Raheem in the past, where he is fit and ready in one training session. He’s so tall and big that moving his body is difficult.”
Haaland has been working hard to stay in shape during the international break, but aside from a friendly against Girona last weekend, he hadn’t played in over six weeks until the Liverpool game.
The fact that he scored after only ten minutes against the Reds shows how naturally fit he is. He played 73 minutes before being replaced by Phil Foden at the Etihad, and he should be ready to go again when City face Leeds in the Premier League on Wednesday night.
