Man City vs. Manchester United: Pep Guardiola says he has “ridiculous” plans for Saturday’s match against Manchester United.
According to the report, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has warned his players not to look beyond tonight’s Carabao Cup quarter-final against Southampton as he seeks a fifth League Cup triumph in six seasons.
Guardiola, on the other hand, admits that he already has some interesting ideas for the weekend’s trip to Old Trafford and that the game will have an impact on his team selection against Southampton, given that it will be City’s fourth game in 10 days following their Premier League and FA Cup wins over Chelsea last week.
“I’d like to arrive against United with a similar average of minutes in the legs of the players, because I have a few ideas, ridiculous thoughts against United, but I haven’t watched the last games,” he said.
“I have to see the way they United play at home and if they changed something. I still need to go over it. That’s why I don’t have a set lineup against Manchester United. It also depends on those who did not play against Chelsea against Southampton and United.
“For the Manchester City game against Chelsea in the FA Cup on Sunday, I made a lot of changes for one reason: how some players felt after the game, after the trip to Chelsea in the league three days before. We arrived too late, and I saw the players tired the next day in training.”
Meanwhile, Guardiola has challenged Kalvin Phillips to unseat Rodri as his first-choice holding midfielder, but says the England player must improve his receiving of the ball from the centre-backs. Phillips was initially barred from training and playing after reporting “overweight” from the World Cup, but he is expected to start against Southampton.
Guardiola stated this;
“Rodri is unable to sleep and must have the impression that someone close to him is doing so. He has no choice.”
