If Cristiano Ronaldo accepts a staggering £173 million-per-year offer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, he will face a backlash in Portugal.
According to Sportsmail, Ronaldo has agreed to a three-year contract that will see him become the face of football in Saudi Arabia.
This includes spearheading the country’s bid to host the World Cup in 2030.
Portugal is also bidding to co-host the tournament with Spain, raising the prospect of Ronaldo attempting to defeat his own country.
To make matters worse, Ronaldo’s archrival Lionel Messi has a deal to promote Saudi tourism as well.
That does not include the World Cup bid, as his native Argentina has also launched a joint bid.
After Manchester United terminated his contract in November, Ronaldo has yet to find a new club.
